Westport Selectmen Hear Second Pitch For Medical Marijuana Facility – News – The Herald News, Fall River, Ma – Fall River, Ma

Citing a case in Illinois, Vieira said one group began as a medical marijuana facility but evolved to incorporate a recreational clientele. He noted how state legislators claim that voters next fall will likely be asked if recreational marijuana should be legalized. Vieira also cited some of the mixed opinions on medical marijuana from medical professionals and asked if Xiphias has any support from medical professionals. On the latter, Romano agreed to forward independent studies on the benefits of medical marijuana. Romano also cited a study on how medical marijuana actually fights addiction against opiates in areas where medical marijuana is available. Romano was insistent that Xiphias has only an interest in producing medical marijuana. He also said that if such a facility were to evolve, a community would have an opt-out option against a facility. Romano said the facility would create 30 to 50 local jobs and would show a hiring preference toward locals. Brayton, a Little Compton native, says he thinks 95 State Road would be the perfect location because it is not located near the town center nor the central village. He indicated that it is nearby state thoroughfares and should not impact local traffic or the town’s small town charm.
